I’m going to be honest here, I wasn’t really sure I wanted to touch this posting.
My site producer, Richard, sent me a link to a Time Magazine article outlining Arizona governor Jan Brewer’s recent proposal that obese patients on Medicaid be charged a $50 ‘fat fee’. Apparently a plan for losing weight will be available to the patients, and if they refuse to follow it, or don’t slim down, the fee will kick in. Richard wanted to know how I felt about the issue – so here’s my thoughts…

Do Weight Loss Shows Push Safety Limits Too Far?
Yesterday I read that a contestant on Obese, ABC’s new upcoming extreme weight loss show, was hospitalized. Apparently 25-year-old LaRhonda Darby took a medicine known as a diuretic to make her body shed water. The problem is that LaRhonda severely dehydrated herself to dangerous levels, enough so that she actually required intravenous fluids. The company behind Obese – 3 Ball Productions, yes the same company that produces The Biggest Loser – commented that Darby’s usage was unrelated to her weight loss. Hmm, I don’t know about that.

Manager Sues For Getting Fat…
In case you haven’t noticed, I have a very strong opinion on certain subjects and a different point of view than most people I come across. But I think when you hear this story you’ll have no choice but to agree with me. And if you don’t you’re crazy!
