Hi Alfonso,
I have quite a bit of weight to lose (100+) and am just getting started.
While I know the basics of how to eat right, I’m wondering whether it’s better to include fat free and low fat versions of foods or to just eat less of the full fat versions?
I know the fat free includes more sugar and that’s something I’m trying to avoid
Can you offer any advice?

Are Vegans Healthier?

I read an article about the rise of Veganism within the celebrity community and how many dieticians are saying that it’s not simply a fad. We’ve seen actors like Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway and even Brad Pitt come out and for various reasons adopt this style of eating. Ask Alfonso: I’m Vegetarian, How Do I Build Muscles?

I turned to a vegetarian lifestyle 5 years ago for medical reasons. I lost over 50 pounds and dramatically improved my health markers.
I also started a workout plan of weights and cardio around the same time (doctor prescribed) and I’ve seen results but I’m not where I want to be.
Do you think that I can reach my goals of being ‘lean and mean’ eating a Vegetarian diet? I’d even settle for toned up at this point. I’m strong but I’m still ‘soft’ and can’t seem to lose more weight?
Any ideas? Suggestion?

I’m 25 pounds overweight and I’m going to finally try to lose it. In the past I’ve tried every diet – Zone, South Beach, Atkins and I did fairly well on Weight Watchers.
My question is about calories and whether or not I should count them? I find it really difficult to track my calories or count ‘points’ and it makes me obsess over what I’ve eaten or am going to eat. And so far I haven’t been successful at keeping the weight off.

I am 5’6″ and weight 195 lbs. I have lost 25 lbs. since January of this year following a regime of cardio and resistance training 5 to 6 days a week. I also try really hard to stay away from white breads, rice, etc – except for one cheat day a week.
For the last two months I’ve added one banana, my favorite fruit, to my protein shake and have not lost any weight since then. Currently I am consuming 1,800 calories a day.

For the past 3 weeks I have been undertaking a body transformation from a well known website. I am 186cm tall (6’1) and 104.7kg (230 lbs) I am aiming to get down to 80kg (176lbs).
I have been consuming 1,800 calories a day and doing weights 5 times a week whilst also performing cardio for 40 minutes a day at a steady pace.
