4 Weeks To Showtime: Yikes – I’ve Gained Weight!
Jul 22nd
Another week has passed and in just one month I’ll be on stage at a local bodybuilding show.
This week was tough for me as I really pushed myself hard and may have over-trained a bit. Plus I had a mighty big surprise – I GAINED weight! I had reached
a low of 199 pounds at the beginning of the week, which I hadn’t been since the age of 21. Just yesterday I weighed myself and I’m 205! Trust me when I say I’m perplexed.
It can’t be water weight because this week I cut way back on carbohydrates and my diet closely More >
Angry Issues: Do You Use Weight Training Gloves?
Jul 21st
It’s time for another Angry Issue her at the site, where I ask you all a question pertaining to health and fitness for your honest feedback. Today’s question is actually a poll of sorts:
Do you use weight lifting gloves? And if so, why?
I have to say that I haven’t had a pair of workout gloves on my hands for probably close to 20 years. I never really liked them and truthfully only wore them early on because they looked kind of cool – they contributed to the gym rat look. But I felt that I lost some grip and feel More >
Ask Alfonso: Should I Count Carbs?
Jul 20th
Alfonso,
I have a weight loss question… how important are total number of carbs per day when it comes to losing weight?
I am counting calories, but should I be counting total carbs also? If so, what is a good number per day to aim for? My boyfriend says you cannot lose fat by eating carbs, but if its all about total number of calories can’t a person still lose weight by counting those alone? Confusing.
I am aiming to keep my calories around 1,500 per day and increasing protein intake to 1 gram per pound of body weight. Those two things seem More >
Infomercial Insanity: TapouT XT
Jul 19th
It’s been a while since I’ve shared my thoughts on a popular infomercial product or fitness DVD. So today I’m talking about TapouT XT a mixed martial arts (MMA) workout program and infomercial that caught my eye.
Sure the marketing is great, but is it a good program for you to follow?
Here’s my Angry Trainer take…
Ask Alfonso: I Got Lazy! How Do I Start Over?
Jul 18th
Hi Alfonso,
I just found your blog and I love it – please help:
I used to work out all the time but I ate terribly, smoked and drank. In the last 5 years I’ve quit smoking, hardly drink and I don’t eat processed foods. BUT I’ve become lazy.
I’m in perfect medical health and last year I even gave my uncle a kidney! Now at 36 and with 1 kidney I really need to be as healthy as I can for the rest of my life.
I tried starting P90X but it’s SO intense. Here’s the kicker – I have a heavy bag, More >
Change It Up: Leave A Little!
Jul 17th
It’s been a while since I’ve shared a simple tip to help you become fitter, healthier and possibly help you to lose some weight.
Today’s Change It Up is as simple as they come – three words in fact. Leave A Little.
So what exactly do I mean? Well here’s the deal. When I meet people they always ask what my suggestions are for food, which is the best diet and how can they lose weight fast?
Now I could tell them to change their lifestyle overnight but as I’ve said before – that’s a recipe for disaster. When it comes to an More >
