ABOUT ALFONSO
I’m Alfonso Moretti Jr, aka The Angry Trainer.
I was born and raised in Westchester County New York. When I was young I loved to take everything apart. All my toys, my bikes, blenders, hair dryers – you name it, I took it apart. I was fascinated at seeing the mechanical parts of objects, how they functioned, individually and in concert. As a kid, I didn’t play sports or get involved in athletics, but by age 13, after watching my Dad workout for years in the garage, and being in a house littered with muscle magazines, I picked up my first dumbbell. And so my fitness journey began…

The human body, the “Machine” as I call it, is truly incredible. It was amazing to me what I could perform, and how
I could change my body composition, how I looked, how I felt. In my early 20′s, I got really serious about the importance of nutrition and began a hobby as an amateur bodybuilder, culminating nearly 10 years later with me winning first place in the light heavyweight category at a natural bodybuilding competition.
Bodybuilding gave me the foundation and the knowledge to understand nutrition and how bodies function and was crucial to the ethos of the Angry Trainer. It taught me to see other styles of training and all forms of exercise differently than a non-bodybuilder, because I have different eyes and a keen understanding of how the body works. But bodybuilding also took its toll, and after three surgeries I had to change game plans and focus on being, rather than simply looking, fit.
From the age of 18, I worked as and was certified as a personal trainer. I’ve worked in big gyms in NYC, private studios in suburbia, and in home training everywhere. I’ve been certified in many different specialties, but truthfully my own experience is what counts, that’s where I learned everything I know today. My own time in the gym, my time training clients, my PASSION for health and fitness, my own lifestyle, those are my credentials. What I know, books just can’t teach.

I’ve dabbled in entertainment – finishing third on Boot Camp, the Fox reality show from 2001, and recently filmed a Wipeout style pilot for NBC called It’s a Knockout. I’ve been an extra in TV shows and movies – and will soon be seen on MTV’s Silent Library. Guess what – I always get cast as the muscle guy! I’m also a regular contributor to Men’s Fitness, write for Discovery Fit And Health and am a spokesman and contributor to FitStudio – the new online fitness venture from Sears.
On a personal level I have two young sons that look up to Dad and know what I’m trying to do; and how I’m trying to fix the fitness industry. They work out with me and love what I’m doing in the fitness field. I’m the cool Dad at parent teacher night – wonder why?
I’ve created Angry Trainer Fitness – the only site that’s dedicated to telling you the TRUTH and breaking down the fitness industry myths and lies. I hope you enjoy the site and I look forward to hearing all your comments and feedback. Good, bad, ugly, bring it!
