Time for another contest here at Angry Trainer Fitness – and you all know I love to give away gear that I personally believe in!

Some of you may recall that last year I was asked to speak at the GNC convention in Baltimore on behalf of NeoCell Health and their line of collagen supplements. Here’s the backstory. In August of 2011 I completely tore my distal biceps tendon in my left arm and it required surgical repair. About 6 months after surgery I was approached by NeoCell to try their line of collagen products in an effort to help speed the healing of my newly stitched up and screwed to the bone tendon!

Time for the science part! For those of you that don’t know, our body’s collagen production slows as we age and as a consequence, everything from our hair, to our skin, tendons and ligaments lose some strength. However if you supplement with collagen – the right type of collagen that is – the body can produce more itself and revitalize many of the tell tale signs of reduced collagen levels. I say the ‘right kind’ because not all collagen supplements are created equally. The two basic kinds are plant and bovine harvested collagen. We’re obviously neither plants or bovine, but it’s widely accepted that bovine collagen better assimilates in the human body as we’re more closely related to animals physiologically than plants. And yes, NeoCell uses bovine.

The more easily assimilated the supplement is, the better results and more collagen you’ll produce. NeoCell’s collagen is hydrolyzed, which in short means it’s ‘chopped’ up into smaller pieces, which allows for better absorption. My results with using NeoCell Collagen were stellar – within 2 months of using the product I attempted my first set of strict pull-ups and got 8 reps! I believe I saw more progress in my two months of use with collagen than I had for the 6 months prior. Needless to say, I’m a big believer and use collagen powder everyday now along with my morning vitamin routine.

In short, collagen is the building block of the human body and it contains major components needed for the growth, repair and maintenance of bones, ligaments, skin, hair and nails. Personally, I feel that the fitness community vastly overlooks collagen use. I mean how many of us have tendon or joint pain? We use our bodies every day and push it to the limits, yet most of us are ignorant to the benefits of collagen use. Back in my knucklehead days, we were told to eat Jell-O or gelatin to help boost tendon and soft tissue strength. Fortunately now we have top grade products that really work and produce results you can actually feel. I’ve met people who have started taking collagen and alleviated chronic shoulder or elbow pain and I can personally attest that in addition, it makes your hair and nails grow like weeds.

Well now I want to share this amazing product with all of you so we’re going to run another Angry Trainer contest! NeoCell has provided us with (6) packages that include 1 month supplies of collagen powder, hyaluronic acid (joint support) and a container of Collagen Sport, which is NeoCell’s all natural – nothing artificial, whey protein powder. This is an awesome starter kit for all of you to get going on a collagen support regimen.

So here’s the deal. This is ultra simple. Ready? NeoCell has helped me recover my fitness so I’m going to put myself to the test for this competition.

In a couple of weeks I’m going to perform 200 pushups and 30 burpees. The question is: How long do you think it’s going to take me?

Your guess will be your entry, and you can only enter once. Now I want to give you all a hint here – be reasonable! Many of you think I’m a fitness machine but one view of my YouTube workouts and you’ll see I get gassed and winded big time. So think hard about how long this little session will take me. Just enter your time estimate in the comments section below and we’ll end the contest Sunday, January 20th at midnight EST. I’ll announce the six winners who either get the correct time or come closest shortly afterwards – and if there’s a draw we’ll pull names randomly!

Got it – Good luck!
