It’s Monday and the start to this workweek doesn’t feel right. I live mere minutes from Sandy Hook, the site of last Friday’s terrible shooting and everyone in this area is in shock – saddened, confused and broken hearted. And inevitably when speaking to others, someone knows another who’s been directly affected. A teacher who was gunned down was also a barista at my local Starbucks and was always cheerful, friendly and smiling. She prepared my coffee for me many times and like so many innocent others was taken away for no reason at all. We’ve all heard or seen the news – it’s truly terrible.

For the past two days we haven’t posted anything here at Angry Trainer Fitness because it seemed trivial to me. In the wake of what’s happened it didn’t seem appropriate to be answering questions about love handles, how to get abs or how to lift more weight. All of those things seem so unimportant with what others have lost. But as a community we will recover, we will learn and as a nation I hope we implement some type of strategy to try and ensure this doesn’t happen again. I’ll resume posting articles today but it in no way means that I’m ignoring this tragedy or that it hasn’t brought me tears.

It’s with a heavy heart that I ask you to remember, honor and support all of the victims, their families and the Newtown, Connecticut community. I also ask you to remember and think of what’s of true importance in your life, and if you have loved ones, grab them, hug them, and tell them that you love them. Life is short and unpredictable as this last week has shown…
