1) Whats your goal?

2) Monitor your results. For example, if you want your biceps to grow, then map out a plan - which exercises, how many sets, how many reps, when to increase weight. Then you monitor your results. If it works, stick to it. If it doesn't, then change things up. Maybe add something.
Generelly try to different things to see what work for you.

3) Watch online videos for correct on all exercises you do. Correct form is very important.

4) Train your legs. Yes Sir - Squats and Good Mornings.
I also read that deadlifting is very healthy. Consider to shoot videos and do form checks online of your squat and deadlift.

5) Weights are good, but long distance running, jumping and sprints are great. Jam it into your week.

No workout can out-work a bad diet.

I'm getting my CPT this month and I'm anticipating a lot of clients who think they can "earn" dessert or a night of nachos & beer by exercising in the morning, or that they can "cancel it out" by doing an extra mile on the treadmill the following day. The biggest lesson I've learned is that exercise is not for weight loss, it's for fitness, and using some crazy formula that x minutes of exercise = y calories burned (or earned) is a recipe for disaster.

Of course I would encourage a new trainee to learn everything they could about exercise and nutrition, but first and foremost I would encourage them to listen to their own bodies. To quote Jack LaLanne: "The mind can play tricks on you, but the body never lies."

Get a trainer to work up some routines for you and make sure you are doing them right. Odds are once you have ever had a relationship with them they will give you a pointer when they see you doing anything wrong.

I want to give a second tip. Slow down with the weights. Find the muscles you are trying to work then feel yourself using that muscle or muscles. The quality of the reps matters more than the quantity.

This morning I had two guys flapping their wings like they were trying to take up flying and arching then hunching their backs. Heads bobbing for apples. Yikes!!

1. It's ok to be a beginner. Every small step counts. They way to get fit is to get up and DO IT. Even if you can only do one sit-up, that's one sit-up more than you did before. Start by walking, end by running. It will happen.

2. What you eat matters even more than how much you eat--mostly. Your gut controls more aspects of your health than you can imagine. A day's worth of calories from diet soda and pizza is very different from the same number of calories from fish and kale. Nutrient dense foods are your friend.

3. If you want fitness and nutrition advice, get it from people who are ACTUALLY fit and healthy themselves! This is rarely going to be from a doctor, nurse, dietician, USDA food pyramid, or fashion magazine bikini body articles.

Invest a little, if the weights etc intimidate you or you don't know what to do hire a trainer for a session. Or take a class, I wanted to do the TRX bands and instead of muddling through I took three classes, it was great. Now the instructor sees me in the gym and gives me compliments on my form.

Look up some beginner circuits, YouTube is a good source.

Work on form and gradually add weight/resistance, don't go all out day one.

Track your progress, I write out my workouts and keep track of weight, reps etc. it's fun to see how far I've come.
