Angry Issues: At What Age Should You “Cover Up?”
If you’ve been following the pop culture news recently you’ve probably heard about Madonna’s latest shock performance. While on stage as part of her current concert tour Madonna slipped her bra to reveal a nipple! Madonna is 53 years old. And the critics had a field day…
Of course I’m sure we’ve all made judgments along these lines ourselves. How often have you seen a man or woman in their 40’s or 50’s showing ‘too much’ flesh… you know what I’m talking about! Guys wearing T-shirts that are way too tight to ‘show off’ their arms and women wearing low cut tops…
So for today’s Angry Issue I’m asking – at what age should you cover up?
Personally I think this is simply a matter of taste…and class to be honest. I don’t find it attractive to wear next to nothing with your butt cheeks hanging out, breasts exposed or jeans so low that you can see the pubic bone. I don’t really care what age a person is, I think especially for women it just sends the wrong message and seems like attention-seeking behavior.
With men it’s not quite as complicated because we have less to show and can’t “wear” our sexuality on our shirts but I’ve certainly seen some guys baring their chests a little too much! And I think that men tend to stare and gawk at women more often than women at men – or at least they’re more obvious with less shame! I see nothing wrong with either gender wearing clothes that flatter their figure and make them feel good about themselves. Heck I hate baggy clothing and wear all of my t-shirts semi–tight. At the end of the day if wearing skimpy clothes makes a person feel good, then why not?
A few weeks ago I wrote a story on Fatkini’s a website dedicated to women showing off their obese bodies in bikinis. And when I wrote the post I asked, “How could they be happy”, because in my mind I’d be miserable. But you know what? Who am I to judge? I still feel sad that these women are most likely going to have health issues and die prematurely, but if they’re happy and confident in their bodies then good for them. Who cares if a 50-year-old woman is wearing short-shorts or has her belly exposed or pierced? Does it affect YOUR life? No. And Madonna showing some skin? So what? It’s freaking Madonna after all, what did you expect. Not to mention she looks damn good…for any age!
Okay so that’s my point of view but I’m sure many of you disagree. Was it tacky for Madonna to expose her breast given her age? What clothing is inappropriate and at what age? Comment away…

To be honest, if my breasts look like that at 53 I will make sure to flash them at everyone in sight
Having said that I am happy she is comfortable with herself, although it looks to me she just got a bit carried away with the performance. It kind of fits the song so…

Madonna or any female, regardless of their age, exposing their breasts to the public, shows a complete lack of dignity and self respect. Don’t get me wrong, “flaunt it if you got it”, but leave some things to the imagination.

I’d say the behaviour is tacky at any age. However, it does get on my nerves that some people think that just because Madonna is 50 she should stay home and knit. She is Madonna! It is somehow reassuring that she is still doing what Madonna does at 50 rather than being Granny-like.

Madonna’s biggest talent has always been her ability to attract attention. At this point in her career it seems very needy and desperate of her to still be trying to “shock” the public…is there anyone who didn’t see her naked 20 years ago in her “Sex” book? Does anyone care?
As far as the general public goes…I’m loathe to see anyone in ill-fitting, too-small, I-apparently-don’t-own-a-mirror clothing. Specifically, 200 pound high school girls stuffed into Daisy Dukes and halter tops with a huge muffin top spilling out of the middle and back fat squeezing out of the top.
Age? Well, I’m pushing 43 and I shop in the junior’s department for basics like jeans and plain t-shirts, because the cut of those sizes fit my body type better than the ones in the ladies’ department. And because I’m wearing four sizes smaller than I did when I was in high school. I’m not running around in uggs or velour sweats with writing across my butt or dressing in 80s throwback stuff like the kids these days are wearing (no skinny jeans, please) , but I’m not dressing in mom jeans and sweatshirts with airbrushed kittens on them quite yet.

It’s not about age. Madonna’s act has been Madonna’s act since she was in her 20′s and it was rather tacky and cringe worthy then. But I’m not aware of her going around dressed like a teenager when she’s not performing.
As for the rest of us, I dream of the day when we manufacture clothing in this country to fit our bodies.

I’m almost 40 and in the best shape I’ve ever been…..so I may be dressing “inappropriately” for quite some time ( making up for lost time). I like the pin up look….and the smaller I get, the more of my form I show ( not necessarily skin, but the clothes become less forgiving).
I think people need to get over it.
On “Hot In Cleveland” there was a great quote by Betty White that pretty much stated ” I don’t think of myself as Old… I still feel young inside”…..
I so relate and I’m almost sure Madonna does too.
