Angry Issues: Would You Gain 50 Pounds For $10,000?
This installment of Angry Issues is really a survey of sorts, to see how all of you feel about gaining weight for cold hard cash.
Think about it – celebrities routinely gain weight and drastically alter their appearance for movie roles, although to be fair, they’re usually getting paid millions in exchange for changing their physical appearance!
But what’s your price? And do you have one? Would you be willing to gain 50 LBS of fat for $10,000? 10 grand would go a long way these days. No? How about 25K paid out in all hundreds. Surely that must be worth a 50-pound weight gain. No? Really? Ok, what about 50 large? That’s a thousand dollars for every pound or weight you gain. Would you take the money then? Be honest everyone…
Now I’ll be honest – I wouldn’t take the money, not even for 100 thousand dollars. I know some of you think I’m full of it, but trust me, I wouldn’t. And it’s not because I don’t need or can’t find a way to put the money to good use – of course I could! But I know for me, a gain of 50 pounds would probably take a year of living a terrible lifestyle for me to achieve. I can’t imagine how unhealthy I’d feel, and can only guess that I’d have associated medical costs. Plus, once I reached my “goal”, the road back would be truly torturous. I may have 100 grand in my pocket, but I wouldn’t be able to look at myself in the mirror. I mean honestly, I feel sick when I gain 5 pounds! I’d be a total mess.
For me, the negative effects of a 50-pound weight gain, both mental and physical, would far outweigh (pun intended) any financial incentive. But if we were talking life-changing money, as in millions, then maybe I’d have a different point of view. Then I could just tell myself I’d be doing it for my family’s future. So I guess I do have a price. But no matter what the amount would be, I’d still struggle. I know some people may say “just gain the weight, take the money, and lose it” – but it’s not that simple…
Even if you lost the weight – a big ‘if’ – I’m not sure that the effects of such a rapid weight gain would disappear altogether. I know that our bodies can grow new fat cells when we gain weight, and even though they shrink in size, the higher the number of total cells you have, the more likely you are to have associated obesity type illnesses. Even if you’re now normal weight!
So is the risk worth it? I don’t think so. I know my energy would suffer being heavier, making me less productive in work. My family life would suffer, my personality would surely change, and I don’t think I’d be fun to be around. I’d probably be lacking certain nutrients and possibly more susceptible to infections and viruses. Although on the plus side, I’d certainly save on my gym membership and protein shakes!
But what do you think? Would you gain 50lbs for cold hard cash? And if so – what’s your price… I’d love to hear your comments…

I can’t imagine how hard it would be for me to gain 50lbs as I’ve never been more than 175lbs (currently 165)
I wouldn’t do it for less than 100K but maybe 150K might work! I just hope I’d be disciplined enough to lose it afterwards…

At $10K I’d certainly think about it. At $50K it’d be a done deal. It’d be nice to be able to drink all the beer I wanted for a while. I love beer but have to practice restraint just about every day. It would suck being and looking totally out of shape, but I think $50K would be worth it….as long as I know I can take it back off. Stallone did this for his movie Copland.

Heck NO!!! Dealing with the extra weight from pregnancy was hard enough! Just going up stairs or carrying groceries becomes a task. Plus think about stretch marks, cellulite and saggy skin. NO THANK YOU.

I couldn’t do it for any price because I know how tough it has been to lose the weight I gained while in a stressful internship,,,I cannot imagine my mental state with an additional 50 lbs!

No way! It has been way too much hard work the last 10 months to lose and keep 50 pounds off. Despite the $90K I have in student loans that seriously cramp my style, I wouldn’t give up the way I feel now. It’s priceless!

Absolutely not! I know how depressed I feel with the extra fifteen I already have!!! No way!

I wouldn’t do it for any amount of $ and I’m not just saying that. Just thinking about the medical issues I would face plus the horrid obsessive thought of having to lose that weight after- no thank you! I beat myself up for not being able to lose 5 pounds now! Imagine the mental stress and depression that I know Ferrrr Suuuure I’ll go through trying to lose 50lbs. Totally not worth it. Besides, I can just say bye bye to seeing any definition anywhere. I can’t look forward to spinning or any other workouts at the gym. They give me so much of an endorphin rush each day, I cant live without it!

No way! Although I’d have fun gaining the weight (eating all the chocolate and cheeseburgers I can handle) losing it would be incredibly difficult. However, my primary reason for not gaining weight for money is pure vanity. Anyone notice that when Renee Z. dropped all her ‘extra’ weight she never looked the same? She somehow looked older and gaunt. I know she went a little too far but seriously, she’s never looked the same and she was very pretty.

I would need at least 1 million. I would never come out the house. I’m 5’2″ and my weight is between 115 and 120, if I go over that I get nerves so I would be extremly depressed if I gained 50lbs.

Absolutely definitely not, not for any money, for all the same reasons given above.

great post.
No, there is no price that I can see me doing that.
I was in a pretty dark place when I was heavy and I worked damn hard to get here. I am happy!
I know I would struggle with the whole mental aspect of the weight gain so there is no price I can place on my own personal happiness and true joy that I have in my life today due to my love of fitness.

I’d do it!!!!!
I need the cash and would just think of how amazing losing that weight would feel!
The anaerobic intervals would be just as hard (but a little slower) the resistance training would weigh the same (poor ‘belly in the way’ technique at first though!
Actually, Mr Angry! Let’s do it! 50 large and I’ll add 50lb!

I wouldn’t. Your health is priceless. You can’t anticipate what toll that could take on your body – your endocrine system, your heart, etc.

Um, yeah, women do it all the time, to bring life safely into the world. No one offers you 10k for that, but I think that’s worth more than 10k, or even a billion, and even though the physical detriment of pregnancy is a hell of a lot more than just weight gain, it’s worth more than money if you ask me. That’s just an example of where you choose to sacrifice your ‘health’ (and you do, trust me!) and your appearance for something of much greater value. I guess that’s what it comes down to, which is more valuable? To me, the money would have to add significant benefit to my family’s life (and we don’t really NEED an extra 10k), but my health and wellbeing is worth a lot more than 10k, to my family as well as to me. So my answer is no, if we don’t need 10k, we don’t need 100, or a million, we are healthy and happy, and content with what we have, and just like bringing life safely into the world, that’s what’s really valuable to me.

I’m sure I would be disgusted with myself but 15k and it’s a done deal. Let’s do this Alfonso. You can post updates of my transformation and weight gain. Then, follow and post video updates of my epic struggle to get back into shape. I’d watch that show haha.

No, I wouldn’t gain weight for money. I say that after gaining 30 this year on the advice of a trainer, during off season as a figure competitor. Dumbest mistake I ever made. Yes, I’ve gotten most of it off, some of course was muscle I’ve built over the past 6 months – but it was a stupid thing to do, physically – but mostly mentally. No money or contest is worth giving up great physical conditioning and the hard work and committed lifestyle it takes to maintain a nice physique.
