Hey everyone – time for something a little different here at Angry Trainer Fitness! As you know we’re always listening to your comments and one of the notes we receive constantly is ‘can we have more exercise demonstrations’ on the site! Trust me, I know where you’re coming from. It’s very hard to write a…

Exercise Efficiency – it’s a term I throw around quite a lot here on the site. But what does it mean? For me, the phrase is a gauge of how effective a particular exercise is at producing the most results in the shortest period of time. For example, biceps curls are great for working the…

Diet plans are like buses and trains – there’s always another one on the way. The sad fact is – there are so many diets on the market now that many of you don’t know where to turn, or what to believe. We really are flooded with information. Does a no carb diet really work? …

Let’s be honest for a moment shall we? Deep down, all of you KNOW whether or not your current workout program is producing results for you. And yet how many people out there ignore the signs and keep plugging away. Recognize yourself in this description? If so today’s podcast is for you. I’m hoping that…

As you can imagine, in my twenty years as a personal trainer, and with my own time in the gym, I’ve seen and experienced my fair share of injuries. But believe it or not most injuries are along the same lines – there’s basically only about 5 injuries that are common amongst all trainees –…

Diets. Nowadays it seems everyone is on one – all of the time! But while I’m a big advocate of eating the right way and being conscious of what you put in your body I think it’s also important to look at the reasons why you’re on a ‘diet’. Can there be a wrong reason…

I know, you train hard, eat right, and think your program is complete. But is it really? Are you making sure that you’re not overlooking some important body parts that help keep you balanced and strong? Or are you only training the areas that you like, or one’s that you can see in the mirror?…

As I’m sure you all know, starting a new diet regimen and sticking to it are two very different things. We all start off with the best of intentions, but usually due to poor planning, we quit at the first hurdle – or temptation – and then it’s straight back to square one! Since I’ve…

I have to thank all of for actively participating in Angry Trainer Fitness. I’m really getting some terrific questions at the moment and it’s a pleasure to be able to pass on my advice and hopefully help some of you out there! Today, Christian from Costa Rica has written in because he’s lost muscle tissue…

Ah man, I hate when I can literally hear the pain and frustration as I read someone’s words. Chris has written me because he’s been suffering with tennis elbow for 8 years now and as of late, the pain just won’t quit. He’s tried it all, physical therapy, ice and heat, etc. – and is…

Disappointed that you didn’t mention boxing or grappling.
Wrestling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is great. So is boxing and kickboxing. Plus you learn something, which is not the case with volleyball, swimming and soccer.
Fighting is the only real sport at the end of the day, everything else is kids playgrounds.

John,
I guess fighting it’s not a sport it’s more like a punishment. Besides u can get really injured, what’s the fun thing about it?

I did both fighting and soccer and got more injuries from soccer, so did some of my friends.
Working the heavy bag, hitting the mitts / pads, jumping rope, even the warming up (which involves leg raises, push ups, sprints) is exhausting.
Plus the people in combat clubs are nicer than soccer players. You have discussions over fighting that you don’t have nowhere else… plus you understand actual boxing fights on TV better when you train yourself… plus you don’t get the thrill during sparring nowhere else. Plus Plus Plus.

Hey John, I hear you. I kickbox, grapple, and do MMA type things myself. I put this together with couples and families in mind, and also chose the ones that appeal to most people. But without a doubt, boxing is awesome and burns tons of calories as well.

Of course you can classify getting hit to the head as “punishment”, but that’s only boxing / kickboxing.
There’s nothing wrong about wrestling and brazilian jiu jitsu. Ed O’Neill from Married with Childrend started BJJ during the series… and in a certain season (don’t remember which) you notice that all of a sudden Al Bundy doesn’t have a belly no more – guess why.

what about downhill ski racing, especially on a hard training day?
