Hey there everyone – it’s Testing the Trainers time again!
I recently received an email from Olga, a reader who wanted me to check out internet sensation Zuzana and her website www.bodyrock.tv.
Here’s what Olga wrote:
“It’s really refreshing to see a trainer who isn’t willing to subscribe to new and trendy fitness and nutrition trends. I’ve been following www.bodyrock.tv, and I was wondering what your opinion about the site was – do you think the fitness tips and exercises seem sound, as well as the nutrition advice? What do you think?”
What’s interesting is that my web designer Richard had already showed me Zuzana’s website over the holiday season and I was immediately intrigued by her, and the information on the site. So here’s my thoughts…
First off all, I had to really be focused and make sure I was being objective when reading the content, suggestions and recommendations and watching the exercise videos on the site. Why? Because Zuzana’s body IS simply incredible, and as I’ve said before that can lead to false credibility in the world of personal training. Just because a person appears to be in incredible shape doesn’t mean they know what they’re doing, or that they are qualified to help other people in their quest for fitness and health.
However I can happily say Zuzana gives great advice and her workouts are EXACTLY what I recommend! You can see her busting her butt during video demos. She uses a lot of bodyweight exercises, a sandbag, dip bar and jump rope in her workouts, and her form is absolutely perfect. I’ve even seen her use a suitcase! That’s ingenuity – proving a weight is a weight no matter what form it takes.
Additionally, Zuzana shows alternate versions for each exercise for those people that aren’t quite as fit as she is – allowing them to participate without being turned off or feel inadequate. The motto I use for my system of training is “Use Your Body, Change Your Life” and her workouts certainly follow that mantra.
Zuzana doesn’t just perform standard pushups, sit-ups and lunges, but instead utilizes multi-faceted exercises that challenge the whole body and multiple muscular systems, flexibility, core, stability and cardio all at once. Where have we heard that genius, training philosophy before I wonder? She uses non-traditional movements – things you won’t see in your local gym, but ones that ensure complete body strengthening and minimal weak links. I’ve tried a few of her routines and they are challenging and very effective. She’s big on using a timer instead of rep counting, and that’s great also – allowing each individual to work at his or her own level.
I even agree with Zuzana when it comes to her nutritional recommendations. She approaches food as I do, and suggests some of the very same tips – slow acclimation to new eating regimens, eating frequently and mostly just using a lot of common sense. Additionally Zuzana’s preaches healthy eating, portion control, low sugar unprocessed foods and all of the good things that I also believe in.
This is a rarity so mark todays date on your calendar or go play the lottery. The chances of hearing me say this next line again is very, very unlikely.
I can’t find ANYTHING I dislike about Zuzana, her site, or what she stands for. Honestly when reading and viewing her site I kept saying to myself “that’s right, yep, yes, she’s right, that’s great, awesome movement” and on and on. I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to see someone else giving out real, authentic information. Common sense is hard to argue with.
From her fitness tips, to lifestyle section, Q & A, recipes, workouts, etc, it’s all really great information. And it’s super practical as anyone can perform Zuzana’s workouts right at home. I couldn’t find any information on her certifications, or history as a trainer and truthfully I really don’t care. She clearly knows what she’s doing and her advice is spot on.
So when it comes to Zuzana and BodyRock TV – The Angry Trainer says HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
